Hastings Cycling Samaritan to call at Thurso en-route to the Shetlands
The Samaritans branch in Thurso has been chosen for a visit by long-distance cyclist, Steve Johnson, as he rides 1,600 miles from Hastings, in Sussex, to the charity's most northern branch - Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. Steve is seeking to recruit additional Samaritans volunteers and to raise funds for the charity.11/3/2019

Mental health care for new mums
More than £50 million is to be spent on improving access to mental health services for expectant and new mothers, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced. The new money will provide access to treatment for an additional 11,000 women who experience mental health problems during and after their pregnancy.5/3/2019

CNS FUND awards maximum funding for MS Therapy Centre Refurbishment
A Caithness MS support charity has been awarded £30,000, the maximum award, by the Caithness & North Sutherland Fund. The MS Therapy Centre Wick was given the money to help refurbish its premises in Braehead and create a new community wellbeing hub.3/3/2019

Parents encouraged to be aware of scarlet fever symptoms
Scarlet fever is a seasonal bacterial illness that is common at this time of year, mainly affects children, and is easily treated with antibiotics. The latest report by Public Health England (PHE) shows that 6,316 cases of scarlet fever have been reported since mid-September 2018, compared to an average of 6,680 for the same period over the last 5 years.1/3/2019
