Public consultation launched on 18th February 2019.   A change in legislation is proposed to help more people across Scotland with complex care needs take part in everyday activities such as travel, shopping, family days out or sporting events.

£2 million for Highland communities
Question Is it not ironic that funds are being disbursed via Scottish Government when at the same time local councils are making major cuts in third sector funding and education? --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- Communities in the Highlands and Islands have been awarded more than £2 million to find new ways to improve people's lives and services.   The funding will benefit 22 community and third sector groups who will use the investment to deliver innovative and long-lasting projects which tackle inequality, poverty and support inclusion in the local community.

Following the tragic fatality last year in Norfolk involving a child and an inflatable Bouncy Castle, and a further incident on an inflatable slide at Woking where ten children were injured and taken to hospital, The Highland Council's Environmental Health Service is responding to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advice and raising awareness of the risks associated with such equipment.   HSE has recently revised their guidance for Bouncy Castles and other play inflatables which is now available to operators and members of the public on their website.

Community development groups to gather at Highland event
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is hosting the second Strengthening Communities Conference Scotland on 28th and 29th May 2019 at the MacDonald Aviemore Resort.   Volunteers, boards, and development workers at the heart of community-led development across Scotland will be gather in the Highlands in May to share grass roots experiences of economic and social growth.
