Photograph of Caithness Family History SocietyThe Caithness Family History Society was formed in September 1999 with a group of 12 members and numbers are now nearing 200. Although we are still "in our infancy" we like to think that what we lack in experience we make up for in enthusiasm, and with the help of members from all over the world, the Caithness Family History Society is steadily growing and helping people link up with their heritage.

We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at North Highland College, Thurso and at other venues 7 - 9 p.m. During the student closed periods we hope to arrange alternative meetings and/or outings. The College allows us free use of computers during working meetings and in addition, subject to availability, use of computers can be made at any time with access to CFHS members of the LDS Church software programmes of the IGI and Scottish Church Records.

We have started to build up a small library of documents and books for reference, which is steadily growing and we also have the 1881 Census CD software, and a microfiche reader. We have access to our local libraries and Archives department, to microfilms of local newspapers, many books and documents and the Old Parish Registers on microfilm. All these sources we use to do look-ups exclusively for members. We produce three journals a year, which as a member will be mailed to you automatically. Those members who are on-line normally also receive copies of the Minutes of our meetings.

We will do everything we can to help you with your queries about your ancestors here.

If you would like to join our Society or would like more information, please contact our Membership Secretary,

The present subscription is 10 pounds (15 pounds for couples) and cheque or bank draft for GB pounds should be made payable to Caithness Family History Society.

Please note that subscriptions are for the calendar year, irrespective of the date of joining. If anyone joins later in the year any earlier issues of our Journal for that year will be given.
