CNS FUND awards maximum funding for MS Therapy Centre Refurbishment
4th March 2019
A Caithness MS support charity has been awarded £30,000, the maximum award, by the Caithness & North Sutherland Fund. The MS Therapy Centre Wick was given the money to help refurbish its premises in Braehead and create a new community wellbeing hub. The therapy centre is used by people suffering from Multiple Sclerosis and other medical conditions that benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Treasurer of the MS Therapy Centre Wick, Janet Farrington said, ‘'We have been based at our current premises for over 25 years and the building needs a major refurbishment to bring it up to modern standards. After successfully negotiating an asset transfer with Highland Council last year, we are working hard to raise money for the refurbishment. We are grateful for the generous support provided by the CNSFund and we hope to reach our funding target and start work in Spring."
The new facilities will be modern and welcoming and will offer enhanced oxygen treatment facilities similar to those already established in Orkney and Inverness. The redesigned layout means the charity can accommodate other complementary therapies and develop the new facility as a community wellbeing healing hub.
David Glass, CNSFund Chair said, ‘We focus on projects that bring environment, social, culture or infrastructure improvements to people living in Caithness and North Sutherland. The refurbishment of the MS Therapy Centre in Wick is a very deserving project and will provide a long-term improvement to a much needed community health and wellbeing facility as well as enabling the charity to expand the range of therapies on offer to help some very serious health conditions."
The CNSFund is funded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and distributes money to community projects that increase the attractiveness of Caithness and North Sutherland as a place to live, work and invest. Applications are assessed on a quarterly basis and information on how to apply can be found at the CNSFund website, www.cnsf.org.uk or by phoning 07841 204 982. The deadline for applications for the next funding round is the 29th of March.
