Bill Fernie Chairman of Caithness Health Action Team (CHAT) at the Annual NHS Highland review 25 April 2019 open to the public asked the top table of Jeane Freeman MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport , recently appointed chief executive Iain Stewart and chairman Boyd Robertson of NHS Highland if they were aware of how changes over the years had increased patient travel to Raigmore to very high levels.   A rough calculation showed it was in excess of 3 million miles each year now creating hardship for some families and huge inconvenience compared to to a time when more clinics were held in Caithness..

Family History Conference - Saturday, April 27th
Family history enthusiasts from across Scotland and beyond will gather in Caithness this month for a major one-day conference.   Wick's Pulteney Centre Saturday is the venue on Saturday, April 27th for the annual conference of the Scottish Association of Family History Societies (SAFHS) under the title of Northern Roots.

The Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity has teamed up with The Highland Council dog wardens to provide free drop-in microchipping and healthcare events for dogs in Alness, Inverness, Nairn, Thurso and Wick.   On Tuesday 7 May 2019 owners and their 4-legged friends are invited to come along to the Farmers show Field in Nairn between 12 noon and 3.30pm.

Caithness Disabled Access Panel
The Caithness Disabled Access Panel meets on the last Wednesday of the month in the Pulteney Centre between noon and 2pm. The aim of the panel is to campaign so that disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. It looks to achieve full access and inclusion for everyone. It does this by working together - including people with any type of impairment, statutory organisations and disability organisations.   Panel members would be delighted to hear from anyone who shares their goals and might want to get involved with their work. For further information, contact Helen Budge at [email protected] or speak to Allan Tait at Caithness Voluntary Group on 01955 603453. .

Ecclesiastical Insurance Movement for Good Awards The £1million Giving programme has two funding categories: 500 Charities will be awarded £1,000 On Tue 23 April 2019, Ecclesiastical Insurance launced its Movement for Good awards - a programme designed to give £1million to charities.   In the first round of funding, 500 charities will each be awarded £1,000.
