Free Dog microchipping and healthcare events - Wick

The Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity has teamed up with The Highland Council dog wardens to provide free drop-in microchipping and healthcare events for dogs in Alness, Inverness, Nairn, Thurso and Wick.

On Tuesday 7 May 2019 owners and their 4-legged friends are invited to come along to the Farmers show Field in Nairn between 12 noon and 3.30pm.

On Wednesday 8 May 2019 the team will be at Milnafua Community Hall car park in Alness between 10am and 11am

Later in the month on Wednesday 29 May 2019 the Dogs Trust and Council dog wardens will be at the Bught Park Pitches from 11am to 2pm.

Wick 1st July 2019 - 2.00pm - 5.00pm
Thurso 2nd July 2019 - 9.30am - 12.30pm

During the sessions anyone coming along can also pick up information leaflets, take advantage of a free basic health check for their dog, get advice on top training tips and ask any questions or raise any concerns they have about their dog with the Dogs Trust or Council dog wardens. There will also be a supply of free poo bags and dog tags.

It is now a legal requirement to have your dog micro-chipped. Microchipping is a simple and effective tool which helps to rapidly reunite lost or straying pets with their owners.

Councillor Allan Henderson, Chair of the Council's Environment, Development and Infrastructure Committee said: "The Council commends the work of the Dogs Trust which supports the work of our own dog warden staff and we would encourage as many people as possible to bring their dogs along. As well as getting them microchipped, owners will be able to pick up some top tips for keeping them in the best of health.

He added: "As a Council we promote dog owners to be responsible for their pets and this includes making sure they are micro-chipped. Not only is it the law now to do so but it gives pet owners the reassurance that should their pet become lost or be stolen, he or she is more likely to be returned to them safe and sound."
