More choice for communities
People across Scotland will now have a say in how £100 million of council funds will be used in their communities. Council leaders have agreed that at least 1% of local government budgets will be subject to participatory budgeting by the end of 2021, giving communities more influence than ever to make decisions on how funding is spent in their localities.26/10/2017
Highland Resident Spurs National Health Campaign
A mental health campaign started by a Highland resident has attracted widespread public support within only a week of starting. Emma Roddick, who lives in the city, started a petition last week calling for NHS24 to add a mental health option to its telephone menu and has already attracted almost 2,500 signatures.26/10/2017

A place to live - Citizens Panel Survey reports highest ever percentage of people feeling safe
98.1% of respondents consider the area within 15 minutes' walk of their home to be ‘very’ or ‘fairly’ safe compared to 96.7% the previous year. In comparison, 86% of the younger age group felt safe.24/10/2017
RNLI Thurso Coxswain retires after almost half a century of service
Bill ‘Wing' Munro the Coxswain for the RNLI Thurso lifeboat will retire on Thursday 26th October having served at the station for almost 48 years. Wing Munro, 65, has served on the crew of the Thurso lifeboat for 47 years, 9 months and as full-time Coxswain for just under 16 years.
