Highland primary and nursery enrolment
Highland Council is inviting parents and carers to enrol their child for nursery and primary 1 for the 2018/19 school year which starts on 21 August 2018. If your child will be five years of age on or before 28 February 2019, they are eligible to enrol for primary 1.28/1/2018

Volunteer Mentors Sought by Action for Children in Caithness and Sutherland
A leading children's charity are seeking volunteer mentors across the Highlands to work with young people supported by a project Action for Children have just launched in Inverness and Ross shire. Caithness and Sutherland are next! Action for Children in the Highlands have begun delivering ‘Intandem', a needs led volunteer mentoring service funded by Inspiring Scotland, for young people aged 8-14 who face complicated and challenging situations. Intandem has been set up to support young people coming into, or leaving the care system, and provide a positive adult role model.

PERMANENT EXTENSION TO BLUE BADGE SCHEME CRITERIA
Cognitive improvements to be included in Blue Badge scheme The disabled person's parking badge pilot, which was launched in April 2016, has been made permanent by the Scottish Government. The eligibility criteria were revised and extended under a pilot to allow carers and relatives of people who pose a risk to themselves or others in traffic to apply for a disabled person's parking badge, provided they meet the criteria.

Put your best foot forward
Scots are being urged to start their New Year's resolutions early and pledge to walk for 15 minutes a day, as the country takes steps towards becoming the world's first Daily Mile nation. Earlier this year the Scottish Government wrote to workplaces, schools, nurseries, colleges and universities encouraging people to walk, jog or run a mile every day - and has today published guidance for early learning and childcare services on how the Daily Mile can become an integral part of younger children's early learning and development.21/12/2017
Festive Workers At Dounreay Pledge £10k To Good Causes
Generous workers at Dounreay have pledged a staggering £10,000 to good causes in the run up to Christmas. Caithness Foodbank received a welcome boost this week when a cheque for £3,225 was handed over after donations were collected during the site's festive lunches.

Council calls for responsible dog ownership
The Highland Council's Environmental Health Service, working with Police Scotland, would like to remind all dog owners it is the owners' responsibility to ensure that their dogs are kept under control at all times and not causing alarm, or fear to any person or animal. The Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010 requires dog owners to ensure that their dogs cannot cause other people to be apprehensive that they that they themselves, or any other person, or animal might be harmed.

Residents Urged to Remember to Recycle this Christmas
Highland Council residents are being asked to remember to recycle as much waste as possible over the festive period. Christmas cards, paper wrapping paper, paper packaging, cardboard, paper, food tins, drinks cans, envelopes, food and drink cartons, aerosols and clean plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays can all be recycled in your blue bin.

The annual display of Christmas Trees at St Fergus church, Wick by community groups has grown to its largest yet. Several groups had people on hand to explain what their groups do and what a huge variety there was even though there are many more groups out there.

Wick High Pupils design app to encourage children to go outdoors
Two high school pupils have created an app designed to encourage children to enjoy the outdoors more often. Mari-Ann Ganson and Ellora James, who are both 17, created Envirocache for an apps competition.
