Thurso Community Development Trust Gets Share In £1.5 Million For Highland-wide Climate Movement To Reduce Waste
Community groups across the Highlands are coming together as part of a new climate movement to help reduce waste and tackle a throwaway culture.   The Highland Community Waste Partnership, led by Keep Scotland Beautiful, is being made possible by a £1,498,568 award, announced today (Tue 25 January) by The National Lottery Community Fund.

The CNSFund has committed over £79k to community groups in Caithness & North Sutherland in its recent grant rounds.  Funded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, a wide range of community-led projects throughout the Dounreay travel to work area are to benefit from the grant support.  
New Chair and Vice Chair for Highland Youth Parliament
The Highland Youth Parliament (HYP) has voted in a new Chair, Innes Morgan from Thurso and Vice Chair, Isaac Beckley from Glenurquhart, near Inverness.   The Highland Youth Parliament is the elected parliament for young people in the Highlands with over 100 elected members via schools and youth forums across the area.

Beatrice Partnership Fund has reopened for the final time.  The fund supports projects that are based in the East Coast of Caithness and Sutherland plus the following Community Council areas in Rosshire, Edderton, Tain, Inver and Tarbat.

Owner Of Ackergill Tower Donates £40,000 To Pulteney Centre
An American millionaire Dr Betsee Parker has donated £40,000 to Pulteney Centre after opening the doors of her private residence to producers of the Netflix hit drama The Crown.   Dr Betsee Parker is an Episcopalian minister and philanthropist from Virginia, bought Ackergill Tower in early 2019 from Clarenco after it ceased trading.

The Rotary Club of Thurso is sad to announce that we are unable to present a public Fireworks Display this year, due to Coronavirus.  Like all other events in our calendar which have been lost to the virus, our annual Fireworks Event will be greatly missed.

The John o' Groats Brewery has provided signs to mark the start/finish of the John o' Groats Trail just outside the brewery location near the harbour in the village.   The John o' Groats Trail is a charitable project to develop a coastal trail in Caithness and Sutherland with additional links in Easter Ross to connect to Inverness, allowing a continuous trail walk to or from as far away as Land's End.
