Volunteers helping tackle food bank misery
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has thanked compassionate community volunteers who are helping those facing hunger in Scotland. Ms Sturgeon was in Kinross to express her gratitude to Broke not Broken, a volunteer-led project, which runs a food bank and advice hub offering people support before they end up in a crisis situation.12/1/2020

Safe Loading In Rough Seas at Gills Harbour Pentland Ferries
With expert guidance from the crew of Pentland Ferries "Alfred" this lorry safely loads onto the ferry at Gills Harbour, Caithness, today (9 January 2019), for her crossing to St Margarets Hope. Sea swells were evident, making the job even harder & causing the ferry to be delayed.

Wick High Pupils Receive SQA Cyber Security Award
In the second year of running in the SQA's Award in Cyber Security Fundamentals Wick High is delighted that 37 S3 pupils received the award. After spending two months learning about cyber security threats and how to defend against them, pupils sat an exam that covered both the theory and practical elements of the course.

Wick Street Design Festival to help redesign Wick's High Street
Wickers are being asked to help develop designs ideas to help improve the High Street. Launched in October 2019, the Wick Street Design Project is a partnership project between Sustrans Scotland, The Highland Council, Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council and Local Councillors working on an ambitious collaborative project to re-design Wick High Street.

Nature fund open for new applications

Nature fund's £156k award to protect threatened waders
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has confirmed that a project to help one of Scotland's most threatened breeding bird species will be a recipient of the Scottish Government's Biodiversity Challenge Fund. Curlews in Crisis Scotland has been awarded more than £156k to help increase suitable breeding areas and reduce predation for Europe's largest wader and one of our most distinctive birds.
