Highland partnership focuses the spotlight on preventing domestic abuse during festive season

For some Christmas is seen as a time to spend time with friends and family, but for survivors of domestic abuse, it can be an extremely difficult time of year.   It's too easy to think of domestic abuse as physical violence but it is very often so much more than that.

Street names can be strange, fun and rude- but they can also be festive.   As Christmas is around the corner, Sellhousefast.uk did some digging to find out which area in Scotland is home to the most festive street names.  

Early learning and childcare

Almost 50,000 children are already benefiting from an expansion of funded early learning and childcare.   From August 2020, the amount of funded learning and care for three and four-year-olds, and eligible two-year-olds, is being nearly doubled from 600 hours a year to 1,140 hours.

Proposed increase in foster carer payments to be considered at council

Members will be asked to approve a proposal to substantially increase the payment to foster carers at the meeting of Highland Council on Monday 9 December 2019.   The new payment proposal recognises the valuable role of foster carers in providing a home and care for the most vulnerable children within their Highland community.  

Triotaxi service will bring cycling to those less able

Members of Wick Wheelers cycling cub have taken possession of a rickshaw-style Triotaxi.   This came about through groups in Wick working together.  

Climate Action Funding Proposal

Thurso Community Development Trust working in partnership with Lairg Learning Centre are intending to submit an initial project proposal to the new TNL Climate Action Fund to develop a project across Caithness and Sutherland which aims to change behaviours in our community in order to take action against Climate Change.  We will be looking at various options including encouraging Zero Waste, Local Food Growing and Food Waste Minimisation to change behaviours in the face of the Climate Emergency.
