Green Health Events - Project Summary
Overview
This is a joint-funded project, supported by Leader
funding. High Life Highland (HLH) as the lead body,
will deliver a series of outdoor events and activities
across each Local Community Partnership area in
Highland, including Badenoch & Strathspey (1 large
event and 2 small events for each area) in 2020.
The aim of the events and activities is to help
improve and sustain the health and wellbeing of
participants (locals and visitors) through improved
access and use of outdoor spaces.
• Increase outdoor activity across Highland, including among disadvantaged groups (SIMD 1&2,
Disabled and other under - represented groups).
• Increase partners', participants', and providers' awareness of the health benefits of outdoor
activities in their communities.
• Lay ground work for more informed future delivery of outdoor activities and associated health
benefits.
• Demonstrate impact to support future green health activities.

More about the event template... The event template has an outdoor pre-requisite. Events will vary in
size and content to suit local community needs, but may be similar in scope to the family open day event
run by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) at Loch Fleet in Sutherland in 2017 -activities included: - wild Tai
Chi, cycling and fitness activities, guided walks, wild food cookery demonstrations, a barbecue with music
from a local group, and food foraging walks with wild food experts. The Loch Fleet family open day event
had four themed activities to encourage people to get more engaged with the countryside: naturally
active, naturally tasty, naturally useful and naturally relaxing and the events proposed in this project will
seek to emulate these themes where possible.

How?
Events will be delivered through collaborative working, using the existing network of assets (venues and people) that exist within the project steering group.
• Central co-ordination by HLH through an appointed Project Officer (Tania Alliod)
• Planning and support will be given by the project steering group (HLH, SNH, NHS Health Improvement, HTSI, THC and others).
• Local Community Partnerships will support the planning of local activity.
• The HLH Project Officer will work in close partnership with CP Development Officers and Green Health Partnership Development Officer and through HLH people and assets in each community.
• Disadvantaged and under-represented groups will be targeted. Community Partnerships will help identify these audiences at a local level...
• HLH will co-ordinate an Invitation to Quote process for event organisers to quote for the delivery of the events
Why?
There is now a demonstrable benefit to personal health and well-being through participation in outdoor events and activities. Green Health Events aims to raise participation and awareness through a series of co-ordinated, community-driven events that use the outdoor spaces available in Highland area.
Outcomes
The GHE initiative with contribute to the Highland Local Development Strategy themes in the following ways:
• Stronger and More Resilient Communities: GHE will build the capacity of partners across the public and third sector, as well as communities, volunteers and business, to engage more fully with future ‘green health’ activity in Highland.
• Increased and Sustained Local Services and Activities: GHE will develop activities that will make a difference both to people who live in Highland and visitors to the area. The events will improve the quality of life for people in each of the localities where events will take place and provide social opportunities for people to come together to enjoy and benefit from the outdoor environment.
• Enhanced cultural, natural and heritage assets: the events will ensure there is good access to the natural assets in communities in Highland which will help people to understand their significance and value.
• Fairer Highland: the events will advance reduction in inequality by working with Community Partnerships, where possible, to identify the most appropriate location and content and to target under-represented or disadvantaged groups.
• Innovation: these new events offer a different approach to providing opportunities for people in each locality to sustain and improve their health and wellbeing.
• Sustainability/Legacy: wherever possible, new recreation activities will be commissioned in line with each Community Partnership’s identification of local need.
Event Evaluations will be designed to inform CPPs, NHS (inc. future link workers) and activity providers about:
• barriers to becoming active;
• barriers to accessing green spaces;
• participant and provider needs, intentions and satisfaction with locations and activities;
• participants’ experience of impact on health & wellbeing
