New patient safety initiative on medicines launched
A new patient safety initiative focussing on medicines and dehydration has been launched by NHS Highland in a bid to let patients know about the risks dehydration can cause when taking certain medicines. New patient information cards detailing which medicines should be temporarily stopped are being distributed to pharmacies, GP Practices and Hospitals across Highland.30/6/2013
Two communities successful in bid for Council�s Challenge Fund
Two Highland groups have responded to The Highland Council�s �Community Challenge� and will be providing enhanced services for their communities at no greater cost than the present Council-run provision. Kyle and Lochalsh Community Trust and Fort Augustus Community Company are the first two organisations in the Highlands to benefit through applications to the Council�s Community Challenge Fund.30/6/2013
Wind farm wind falls should bring socio-economic benefits to Caithness
Youth employment opportunities, tourism initiatives, improved transport links and support for businesses came out top in a recent survey to find out what wind farm windfalls should be spent on in Caithness in the future. Not surprisingly, the Caithness Conversation Community Profile suggests that a high percentage of the funds should be spent on communities nearest the wind farm but the idea of setting aside a smaller pot of funds for county-wide initiatives was also supported.30/6/2013
Babies will begin to be protected against rotavirus from today 1st July
Rotavirus vaccine programme begins Protection against severe diarrhoea and vomiting for babies and young children. All babies in Scotland born on or after May 1 this year are being offered vaccination against rotavirus, a severe diarrhoea and vomiting bug affecting in babies and young children that can lead to dehydration and hospital treatment.29/6/2013

Carrier Bag Tax Will Start in 2014
By 2014 Scottish retailers will charge a minimum of 5p per bag in a bid to reduce carrier bag use. Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead announced the move today which follows a consultation that was held last year to gauge public opinion.27/6/2013

DISABLED YOUNG PEOPLE FROM CAITHNESS SHARE IDEAS WITH MSPS
A group of disabled local young people from Caithness were invited to the Scottish Parliament to attend, �Young Scot: Agents of Change� parliamentary reception to discuss how services can be improved to support the needs of disabled young people in their local area. Scottish Government Failing NHS in the Highlands and Islands
A key target for the treatment of cancer patients was not met in the last quarter, figures have revealed. The latest statistics showed 94.4% of people started cancer treatment within 62 days of being urgently referred because it was suspected they had the disease - just below the target of 95% and down from 95.8% in the previous quarter.24/6/2013
Where Highland Eagles Dare to be seen live on CCTV
Thanks to The Highland Council�s Countryside Rangers live pictures of a Golden Eagle nest can now be seen at the Assynt Visitor Centre in Lochinver, Sutherland which is located within the North West Highlands Geopark. A tiny CCTV camera is perched on a steep crag in a remote Highland glen in Assynt and the picture is beamed nearly 20km to the Visitor Centre.24/6/2013
Views sought on the number of wheelchair accessible taxis in the Highlands
The Highland Council is consulting with local disability and access groups and the taxi trade to find out their views on a change of licensing policy that could lead to an increase in the numbers of wheelchair accessible vehicles in the Highlands. At present, in Highland, only around 5% of the overall taxi and private hire car fleet are wheelchair accessible.24/6/2013
