Postal campaign urges lower income households to find out if they qualify for free energy saving measures

22nd July 2013

Over 200 households in Thurso and Wick are being contacted by Home Energy Scotland in a bid to find out if they qualify for free help to improve the warmth of their home and save money on their energy bills.

Home Energy Scotland’s leaflet campaign is endorsed by The Highland Council and is targeting selected addresses in each town.

Peter Rickard, the organisation’s Highlands and Islands advice centre manager, urged recipients to get in touch as quickly as possible:

“We have recently been made aware of the availability of free or heavily discounted energy saving measures in Caithness for homeowners or private sector landlord tenants who are in receipt of certain benefits.

“Subject to meeting qualifying criteria and a property survey, a range of free measures are available such as oil and gas boiler repair and replacement as well as insulation measures.

“It is easy to get in touch. Local householders who receive our leaflet simply need to call our freephone number 0808 808 2282 or text ‘warmth’ to 07827 278134 to be called back by one of our advisors.

“However schemes and offers can change over time, or become over-subscribed, and it is essential to get in touch with us now.”

“If any other homeowners or private sector landlord tenants feel they might also qualify please also get in touch to receive clear and impartial advice.

Home Energy Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by Energy Saving Trust. It has already helped over 230,000 households reduce their fuel bills and is aiming to help everyone in Scotland.
