Over 5000 Kids Seen By Highland Rangers So Far In 2016
Over 5000 North Highland pupils have undertaken a project with the Highland Council's Rangers so far this year. It has been a really busy year in the North Highlands for The Highland Council's Countryside Ranger team.14/9/2016
Caithness Heart Support Group Donate Equipment
THE Thurso and Halkirk joint GP practice was delighted to receive much-needed replacement items for the surgery. An examination couch, heavy-duty, electronic scales and four pulse oxometers, were funded by Caithness Heart Support Group.13/9/2016
Volunteers Improve Access Along the Caithness Coast
Members of the Caithness Countryside Volunteers teamed up with the Friends of the John O'Groats Trail on Sunday morning to improve access along a section of coastline in the Latheron area, cutting back dense gorse and building stiles to improve access for walkers. The works on Sunday contribute to establishing a long distance walking route from Inverness to John O'Groats and other work days are planned in the future.13/9/2016
Recycle Week 2016- Get involved and dont let a good thing go to waste
Recycle Week 2016, which is taking place from the 12th to the 18th of September 2016, is set to see a whole host of action taking place across Scotland, with The Highland Council's Waste Team lending its support to the campaign and encouraging others to follow suit. The week, which is coordinated by Zero Waste Scotland, aims to get everyone in Scotland recycling more by raising awareness of its benefits and promoting easy ways to do more.12/9/2016

Women Against State Pension Inequality are holding a national Day of Action on Friday 16th September 2016. The Caithness WASPI group will be actively campaigning in Wick and Thurso to raise awareness of the changes to women's pensions.10/9/2016

Archaeology Festival to showcase historic past of Highlands
The high point of the year for celebrating the local heritage of the Highlands starts on Friday 30th September. For two weeks, the Highland Archaeology Festival will offer a range of walks, talks, workshops, exhibitions, the annual conference and other events for all ages throughout the Highlands.4/9/2016

Wicks Summer Reading Challenge Certificates Presented
Children from the Wick area who joined in the Summer Reading challenge at Wick library were recently presented with certificates to acknowledge the completion of the challenge over the summer period. Councillors Neil Macdonald, Bill Fernie, David Bremner and Gillian Coghill were on hand to congratulate the youngsters and hand over a certificate and a medal for their efforts.1/9/2016

Thursday 13th October 2016 is the day to head to the Pulteney Centre in Wick and other places on other dates in Highland if you want to find out more about support or training for making choices about Self Directed Support. Bags of Help Greenspace Funding Applications Now Open

Local authorities, community groups and organisations can all apply for Tesco Bags of Help funding! Great news - the Tesco Bags of Help grant scheme is now permanently open for applications. Bags of Help will now see the money raised by the 5p bag charge in Tesco stores in England, Wales and Scotland opened up to a greater range of projects that support community participation in the development and use of open spaces.29/8/2016

Womens State Pension Fight With WASPI - You Can Join
Following successful meetings in Wick and Thurso of the newly formed Caithness WASPI group, two more meetings have been planned for Tuesday 30th August 2016 at 6.30 pm in the Pentland Hotel, Thurso and Wednesday 31st August 2016 at 6.30 pm in the Norseman Hotel, Wick. Both meetings will focus on the national WASPI Day of Action on Friday 16th September 2016 with a view to running some awareness raising events throughout the County.24/8/2016
Caithness and North Sutherland Safe Highlander 2016
Over 270 local primary seven pupils across Caithness and North Sutherland will be looking forward to taking part in the forthcoming ‘Safe Highlander' event which is being coordinated by a local steering group on behalf of The Highland Council, Community Planning Partners and the many other organisations involved. The popular annual event, which takes place this year on the 6th and 7th September, is designed to give the pupils a positive, interactive experience increasing their knowledge in community safety, health and crime prevention.21/8/2016
