Scout Post In Thurso For Christmas Cards

It's hard to believe it has come round again so quickly but its time to think about your Christmas cards! 2nd Thurso Scouts will be running their Community Scout Post again this year and post boxes are now out in their locations around the town and will remain open until Friday 17th December at Newsbeat on Princes Street, Frasers on Castlegreen Road, McColls in High Ormlie, the Co-op in Mount Pleasant and in Thurso Library and the Council offices in Rotterdam Street.  It’s fantastic that local government and local businesses support this worthwhile event.  

CHAT Stall At Wick Fun Day Raises Great Amount For Fighting Fund

CHAT's treasurer has sent out a message about today's Funday with regard to the stalls funds - "Well done to everyone involved in the fundraising stall in the Market Square today, the total raised was £672.87 which is really great.  The total is for everything - raffle, donations, etc it includes the £40 that Bill received as donations." CHAT chairman Bill Fernie paid tribute to a great and dedicated group who are pulling out all the stops in their efforts to oppose NHS Highland plans to downgrade maternity services at Caithness General and he said, Once again people in Caithness have shown their generosity and that they are prepared to help ensure that funds are not a problem in taking the campaign forward.  

CHAT - Open Public Meeting Tonight Friday 25 November - 7.00pm

The maternity downgrading issue will be discussed at a public meeting tonight in Assembly Rooms, Wick.   The meeting starts at 7.00pm.  

CHAT Will Lobby Councillors In Demo At Wick Town Hall - From 9.20am Tuesday 22 November

Caithness Health Area Team - CHAT members and supporters will demonstrate outside Wick Town Hall when the Caithness Committee meets on Tuesday 22nd November 2016.   Meeting is open to the public but may be restricted once seats are full.  

Funding for 3rd sector culture and leisure groups decided

Highland Council's third sector culture and leisure funding until 2018/19 has been agreed by Members of the Education, Children and Adult Services Committee according to Council priorities as previously set in December 2014.   Members have agreed grant allocations of £1,053,409 for 2017/18 and £493,821 for 2018/19.  

Caithness WASPI Meetings

Caithness WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) are holding meetings on Tuesday 15th November 2016 at 6.30 pm in the Pentland Hotel, Thurso and Wednesday 16th November 2016 at 6.30 pm in the Norseman Hotel, Wick.   The aim of the meetings are to give an update on the progress made so far in particular the Crowdfunding campaign which has raised over £100K for legal action to secure a better deal for 1950s born women unfairly affected by State Pension Age changes in the 1995 & 2011 Pensions Acts..

Following the initial bidding process 15 projects now have a chance to put their idea to the public vote .  There is £30,000.00 on offer with applications received totalling £40,464.00.  

Caithness Volunteers enhance habitat for the Small Blue butterfly

Members of the Caithness Countryside Volunteers turned out in force on Sunday (30 October 2016) to assist with a habitat enhancement project for a rare butterfly species in the Dunnet Bay area.   Dunnet Bay is home to the most northerly colony of the Small Blue Butterfly whose caterpillars depend solely on kidney vetch as a food source.
