Peatland workshops prove hit at Science Festival - Peat Balls
Children from Bower and Castletown Primary schools in Caithness enjoyed a series of workshops organised by The Highland Council Planning and Infrastructures Countryside Rangers at the Caithness Science Festival last week. The local rangers from Caithness and Sutherland provided a mix of workshops focusing on peat and the importance of the Flow Country.22/3/2016

The new Wick High school campus incorporating ages 3 - 18 is well on its way with the buildings now looking more enclosed. The school which will be home to all ages includes a new primary school to replace two primary schools - Pulteneytown and South.20/3/2016
£1m for Gaelic broadcasting From Scottish Government After UK Withdrawal
Gaelic broadcaster MG ALBA will receive an additional £1m investment this year. Minister for Scotland's Languages Alasdair Allan announced the media service will receive the funding following the UK Government’s plan to withdraw all funding to Gaelic broadcasting in Scotland.19/3/2016
Health bosses forced to apologise following death of newborn baby in Highland hospital
Health chiefs in the Highlands have been forced to apologise after a newborn baby died. The girl died of the e.coli sepsis infection just 40 hours after being born at Caithness General Hospital in Wick.19/3/2016

Warning Vulnerable Adults About Financial Scams
Staff from a range of agencies who work with vulnerable adults in Highland have been getting training to help prevent people falling foul of financial scams. In another example of integrated working involving NHS Highland, Police Scotland and Trading Standards, the training included films, presentations and discussions, and provided staff with advice and guidance on how to spot and prevent financial harm.19/3/2016
Earth Hour
NHS Highland is urging its staff to switch off their lights at home for an hour on Saturday (19th March 2016), as part of a demonstration for action on climate change. The health board has emailed its employees suggesting that they sign up for Earth Hour 2016 - the worlds biggest annual celebration for our planet.18/3/2016
Free support event in Wick for people with Type 2 diabetes
Diabetes UK will run one of a national series of free educational events to provide expert advice and information for people recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in Wick on Tuesday 5 April. Council To Support National Five Drama Course
Highland Council has listened to public feedback on Eden Courts decision to cease running the SQA National Five Drama course. The council is to provide £11,500 towards the running of this course for the financial year 2016/17 from the Councils Care and Learning Services budget.16/3/2016
Launch of strategy to tackle wildlife crime in the Highlands
A strategy to tackle wildlife crime for the next three years was launched on Monday 14th March 2016 been launched in the Highlands. The Highland branch of the Partnership Against Wildlife Crime (PAW) Scotland action plan is a local collaboration between a number of organisations including Police Scotland, Highland Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, RSPB Scotland, Scottish Land and Estates, National Farmers Union Scotland, Association of Salmon Fishery Boards and the Scottish Gamekeepers Association to name but a few.15/3/2016
