After its winter break, Caithness Family History Society has restarted its "help" sessions for those who would like to research their family history, or need advice on how to continue. If you are interested, go along to the CFHS office in Caithness Horizons, Old Town Hall, Thurso, between 2pm and 4pm on any Saturday afternoon or on the last Wednesday afternoon of any month.[History]

24/8/2015Caithness Horizons Secures Funding For Viking Festival 2016
Centre For Nordic Studies, UHI Awarded Funding To Work With Caithness Horizons Museum To Develop The Caithness Viking Festival. Northern Scotland despite its Viking heritage does not have a modern Viking Festival.[History]
13/8/2015Caithness Horizons Museum welcomes half a million visitors.
Tuesday 11th August saw local group No Limits Caithness visit the Museum for a morning packed with Viking activities with Curator Joanne Howdle, or Thordis Eiríksdóttir as she is fondly known to local groups and schools. The group helped the Museum to hit the half million visitors mark and to celebrate they were presented with a special cake made in the Museum's cafe.[History]

Saturday 15th August Join Melissa and Romain of the School of Ancient Crafts as we explore how plants and herbs were used in the past. This workshop will include a spot of foraging as well as making soap with native herbs, using pot-boilers (hot stones) to heat milk and make a soft cheese, baking bread next to an open fire, and much more! Join us again on Sunday 16th August to learn how to build a prehistoric oven in which we will bake fish and bread.[History]

11/9/2014Thrumster Railway Station Gets Its Sign Restored
Yarrows Heritage Trust located near Thrumster has a number of projects and one of them for the last few years has been the restoration of the Thrumster Railway Station that was once part of the Wick Lybster railway. Recently the Trust managed to locate and recover the original station platform sign.[History]

The success of the exhibition, which opened to a capacity audience of well over 100 people on the evening of Wednesday 2nd July at Castletown Heritage Centre, was down to the artistic talents and generosity of locals and others further afield.
