Success of breast cancer drive
A groundbreaking breast cancer campaign has seen a 50 per cent increase in the number of women consulting their GP for breast cancer symptoms.   The Scottish Government’s breast cancer drive, featuring Elaine C Smith, launched in September last year and was the first advert in the UK to show real pictures of women’s breasts with visible signs of breast cancer.

RWE npower renewables (RWE NRL) is encouraging people in Caithness to take part in the Caithness Conversation, a discussion about how the community funds linked to wind farms can best be used to support the area.   RWE NRL, one of the UK’s leading renewable energy developers, invests more than £75,000 per annum in Caithness through community funds associated with its wind farms.

Alex Salmond has refused an invitation to accept a petition from Rhona Weir, the 94-year old environmental campaigner and widow of Tom Weir.  The petition which contains close on 4500 signatures from people in 43 different countries calls on Alex Salmond to ‘Stop the Reckless Siting of Wind Turbines in Scotland's Scenic Landscapes’ http://chn.ge/14WzCGZ The organisor of the petition, Harley Keisch of American internet radio station Wind Wise Radio has written twice to the First Minister inviting him to accept it in person at Eden Court from a delegation led by Rhona Weir, widow of celebrated climber, author and broadcaster Tom Weir (photo of Rhona at the Perth anti-wind protest in October attached).

New Skills Development Fund For Museums Sector
Details of a new fund created by Museums Galleries Scotland to support the Scottish museums sector in skills building and workforce development have been announced.   The Scottish Government is providing £80,000 to establish the SkillsDevelopment Fund to support the sector to work in partnership to run training courses and skills development programmes in Scotland.
