New Materials for Highland Blue Bins announced during Recycle Week

Wick Harbour Day 2015
THE rain held off for most of the afternoon to make this year's Wick harbour day a success. Crowds flocking to the quayside found plenty to entertain them in the programme compiled by the organisers Wick Lifeboat committee, both on land and on the water, as you can see from our photos.20/6/2015

Thurso student elected to key role
A student at North Highland College UHI has taken up a key role in the Highlands and Islands Students' Association. Lorna Stanger (46), a sport, fitness and health student from Thurso, was voted as vice-president (further education) of the organisation.20/6/2015
Wick High School App Winner For Secondary Schools
Pupils from Wick High School and Lamlash Primary School on the Isle of Arran have been announced as winners of a dragon's den style competition to design apps that solve real-world problems. The Highlands and Islands ‘Apps for Good’ final took place today where schools from across the region pitched their products via live videos to a panel of judges based at UHI’s executive office in Inverness.16/6/2015

Caithness Heart Support Group Presents More Medical Equipment
CAITHNESS Heart Support Group handed over the latest items of medical equipment it has funded. Wick medical centre's Riverview Practice received an ECG machine and the Pearson practice, a blood pressure monitor and a pulse oximeter.15/6/2015
Students make contribution to gaelic playgroup
Students on the Employment Programme into Construction (EPIC) course at North Highland College UHI have recently designed, built and installed a shed for the Gaelic playgroup based at Mount Pleasant School. As part of their enterprise unit ‘identifying a need in the community' the students reached out to numerous organisations for a project that they could help with and following discussions with the playgroup, the students collectively decided this would be a great project to work on.15/6/2015

Board game aims to educate youngsters about healthy weight
Two Highland public health dietitians have created a board game aimed at improving peoples understanding of healthy weight. The Food, Mood and Health board game is a thoughtful and fun learning resource for children, young people and adults that provides an informal context for learning about important food and health topics.15/6/2015
Commuter Gripes Could Be Solved by Bike Week
As part of its preparations for Bike Week 2015 (running 13 - 21 June), the national cycling charity, CTC has found that almost half of Britain's commuters live within an ‘easily cycle-able' distance from their place of work (0-5 miles away). If they aren't already enjoying a ride to work, CTC's survey responses suggest that millions of more commuters would feel much better for making the switch to cycling.14/6/2015
Police Looking For Stolen Cement Mixer
Police in Thurso are investigating the theft of an orange cement mixer and an orange, red and white coloured Stihl saw with a circular cutting blade. This theft occurred from a property under renovation at Brough by Dunnet and is believed to have happened some time between 1st May 2015 and 9th June 2015.14/6/2015

Assault - Sir Georges Street, Thurso.
During late evening of Saturday 6th June 2015, a disturbance occurred near the junction of Sir Georges Street, Thurso and Millbank Road, Thurso. The disturbance involved around 10 persons; members of the public were seen in the area and are urged to come forward if they have any information that may assist the investigation.7/6/2015
