Christmas Comes Early For Caithness Groups

Christmas came early for a number of local organisations when they received cheques from from the Highland Council's Caithness Wards Discretionary Budgets.   The cheques were presented by Caithness Members at a ceremony in Wick Town Hall on Monday 17th December 2012.

Recycling Arrangements Over Holiday Period

Recycling and refuse collection arrangements over the Christmas Holidays.   With the 2012 festivities almost upon us, The Highland Council is advising households not to get snowed under with waste but to take advantage of all the recycling opportunities available over the Christmas holidays.

As Christmas approaches, and presents lie under the tree, Scottish Water is reminding customers to be vigilant and follow our 3 C�s advice to help stop bogus callers.   Bogus callers often prey on householders at this time of the year, including the vulnerable and elderly.  

Burst and Frozen Pipes Can Be Avoided

A burst pipe can cause serious damage to your home�s structure and electrical wiring.  The following steps describe what you should do as soon as you discover a burst pipe: Turn off the main water supply stop cock � you should find this under the kitchen sink or where the service pipe enters your home Drain the system � turn on all your cold taps Turn off water heating systems Turn off the electrics Call a professional to repair the water damage Please also note: If water has been leaking through for some time and the ceilings are bulging � be careful, rooms may not be safe to enter.

Cashback Funding Reaches �50m

Youth organisations will receive a CashBack Christmas present of �1.5 million, Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill announced today.   The first tranche of �5.6 million seized by the Crown from Abbot Group Limited under the Proceeds of Crime Act will go to a consortium of six national youth organisations led by Youth Scotland.  

New Bird Boxes Built At Seadrift Centre

The Caithness Countryside Volunteers spent last Sunday morning building bird boxes at their last event of the year.  A total of 14 standard bird boxes were built at Seadrift, The Highland Councils wildlife centre at Dunnet Bay.
