Don’t Give Fire A Home This Winter
A map showing where house fires took place across Scotland over the last year has been unveiled at the launch of an annual fire safety campaign.   The ‘Scotland’s Hottest Postcodes’ map reveals that while the highest concentration of house fires in 2011-12 were centred around built-up areas such as Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee, house fires affect homes throughout Scotland.

A fire that broke out at Ormlie Industrial Estate, Thurso, Caithness about midday on Saturday 3rd November 2012 was brought under control by firefighters from Thurso and Wick.   Four tenders were at the scene of the fire.

A hand-cranked crane built by Bowser and Cameron of Glasgow in 1859 has been restored and put back on display in Hopeman Harbour, Morayshire.  The crane was first used in preparing cargo at ports on the Clyde, and then in 1880 it was purchased by the Wick Harbour Board for use in the Herring fishing industry, before being moved to Hopeman Harbour around 1925.

PPP Offer Five Places To Gain SVQ In Playwork - Is This Opportunity For You?
Pulteneytown People's Project have secured funding through the Highland Council to provide a unique opportunity to put five people through their SVQ level 2 or 3 in Playwork.  The full cost of the year long course will be covered and childcare will be provided in the PPP creche/after school club, free of charge, if required.

A successful karting day was held by Thurso Rotary Club when entrants from all ages brought their home-made karts to try out the downhill run at North Highland College.   It seemed a fitting place to get the art of kart building going again as the run ended up at the new Engineering, Technology and Energy centre opened officially just over week ago by first minister Alex Salmond.
