UPDATE - Body Found - - Police increasingly anxious to trace missing person Mark Burgess
Updated 21 October 2014 Body found in the Alness area identified as missing Wakefield man Mark Burgess Police Scotland can confirm that a body recovered from the Alness area on Monday 20 October 2014 at around 1800 hours has been identified as that of Mark Burgess (58) who had previously been reported missing from the Wakefield area. Next of kin have been informed and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.20/10/2014

Youngest Newt surveyor presents his work at Edinburgh Herpetological Symposium
Young Highlander Callum Ullman-Smith, a pupil Auchtertyre Primary School, is only 12 years old and has been surveying for Palmate Newts (Lissotriton helveticus), Slow Worms and other amphibians and reptiles since he was seven years old. Recently Callum's time has been taken up with surveying a set of nine rock pools on the shore near Reraig, on Loch Alsh near the Isle of Skye, every month he can, for the past three years.16/10/2014

Councillor Praises Highland Residents For Recycling Figures
The Highland Council recycling rate has reached 45% pushing it up to number 11 in the rankings of the 32 Scottish Local Authorities according to new figures released by SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) for 2013. Councillor Graham MacKenzie, Chair of the Council's Community Services Committee, said: "These latest figures are great news and testament to the commitment of Highland residents to recycling.6/10/2014
Council offers help for Highland communities to be winter resilient
The Highland Council is offering assistance to communities who wish to take action in their own areas to help clear snow and ice from local footpaths. Highland Council's Director of Community Services said: "When it snows, or we have hard overnight frosts it is quite simply not possible for Council resources to be everywhere at the same time to treat footpaths.6/10/2014
Highland Council urges communities not to miss out on Vodafone 3G mobile access
The Highland Council is highlighting a mobile phone access programme to communities in the region who currently have no 3G mobile reception. Vodafone UK has teamed up with the National Association of Local Councils and Countryside Alliance to encourage more communities to apply to its Rural Open Sure Signal programme.6/10/2014

Highland Council takes enforcement action on dog fouling
The first two weeks of September saw Highland Council staff stepping up action on dog fouling in response to the Keep Scotland Beautiful annual ‘Ditch the Dirt' campaign. During the fortnight Council employees were out and about talking to dog owners and other members of the public about dog fouling in Caithness, Ross-shire, Inverness and Lochaber.29/9/2014
