Funding Opportunity - Holiday Grants for Children
The Henry Smiths Charity has announced that schools and youth groups can apply between now and the 18th March 2016 to the Holiday Grant for Children Programme for activities taking place between the 1st February - 30th April 2016.  Schools, youth groups and not for profit organisations can apply for grants towards holidays or outings within the UK for children aged 13 and under who are from deprived areas or have a disability.

Funding Opportunity - Wolfson Foundation - Disability and Special Needs Grants Programme
The Wolfson Foundation has announced that the next closing date for applications to its Disability and Special Needs Grants Programme is the 5th January 2016.  Through the programme, the Wolfson Foundation, makes grants of between £15,000 - £100,000 to charities working with people with disabilities and/or the elderly which are providing excellent services.

Highland communities continue to feel safe
Highland communities continue to view their neighbourhood as a safe place to live.  A Highland Council attitudes survey has revealed that 96.8% of respondents view the area within 15 minutes and walk from their home as very or fairly safe.

More than 100,000 bowel screening tests returned
Scots galvanised to join the bowel movement.   People across Scotland answered Detect Cancer Early call to join the ‘bowel movement with new statistics highlighting that an additional 3,000 bowel screening tests were returned during September and October, compared to the same period the previous year.

John Logie Baird, the man who was the first in the world to televise objects in motion has been inducted into the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame.   Professor Malcolm Baird, the son of John Logie Baird, provided some original material for the Hall of Fame website and said Scotlands contributions to engineering are so great that it came as a surprise to me that the Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame has only been in existence for a few years.  The descendants of John Logie Baird in Scotland and Canada are delighted that he has been included and we hope that the SEHF will inspire bright young people to continue Scotland's great tradition of engineering and innovation.

Honour for North MSP
North MSP David Stewart has been selected by the International Diabetes Federation to represent Scotland at the Parliamentary Champions for Diabetes conference in Canada at the end of the month.  David Stewart, who chairs the Scottish Parliaments Cross Party Group on diabetes said he was greatly honoured to speak at the conference in front of over 100 Parliamentarians from across the globe.
