Labour MSP David Stewart is supporting the Scottish Cot Death Trust in its campaign to get two books into schools and nurseries across Scotland.   Mr Stewart and his wife Linda lost their youngest son, eight-month-old Liam, to cot death in 1991 and were supported by the trust.

One of the latest cattle breeds is Piemontese and farmer Keith Dunnet at Achorn Farm, Keiss, Caithness has plans to extend the market for this premium quality meat.   The Piemontese cattle breed is a beef breed of medium size that converts forage very well into beef and has a high dressing out percentage.

Police Look For Information Regarding Smashed Windscreen In Wick
Police are appealing for information following windscreen damage to a blue vehicle which has occurred on Macrae Street, Wick between 7pm on Thursday 24th December 2015 and 3pm on Friday 25th December 2015.  Any witnesses are encouraged by Police to come forward.

Police Want Information About Damaged Vehicle in Thurso Road, Wick
Police are appealing for information following damage to a vehicle which has occurred on Thurso Road, Wick at around 1.45pm on Saturday 26th December 2015.  This is damage believed to have been caused by a small silver vehicle which was driving out of Wick at this time.

Green fingered families from Caithness had a go at creating Christmas decorations from natural materials when they joined The Highland Council Countryside Rangers for a special seasonal craft session in the Seadrift centre at Dunnet.   Everyone taking part, adults as well as children, had great fun making their own festive decorations.

Childrens projects supported in run up to Christmas
Four projects benefiting local children have received early Christmas presents in the form of awards made from the latest round of the E.ON Camster Community Fund.   Of the five awards totaling over £31,000.00 made recently by the E.ON Camster Community Fund Panel, three were to Watten, Thrumster and Wick High School Parent Councils and one to Watten pre-school playgroup for transport, equipment and event costs.

Half of all Scottish Councils already resettling refugees
Hundreds of refugees have been arriving on Scottish soil over the past month.  Half of Scotlands local authorities have now received refugees in their areas, and the other half have indicated a willingness to support refugees affected by the current humanitarian crisis.

Funding Opportunity - Holiday Grants for Children
The Henry Smiths Charity has announced that schools and youth groups can apply between now and the 18th March 2016 to the Holiday Grant for Children Programme for activities taking place between the 1st February - 30th April 2016.  Schools, youth groups and not for profit organisations can apply for grants towards holidays or outings within the UK for children aged 13 and under who are from deprived areas or have a disability.
