NorthLink Ferries has teamed up with RSPB Scotland to give families a chance to tap into their wild side.   Until September, a set of ‘pop-up' binoculars and wildlife calendar providing helpful nature-watching tips will be offered to families travelling on the ferry service, helping them spot unique wildlife as they make their way to and from the Northern Isles.

Laurandy Day Centre, Wick and NHS Bayview, Thurso Take Over Alzheimers In Caithness
From 1st May 2017 Alzheimers Scotland will no longer offer their services in Caithness for people suffering from dementia.   Couthie Corner, Thurso based at Bayview will no longer be run by Alzheimer Scotland but will instead be run by the NHS and the Longberry day service in Wick will be taken over by Laurandy.

Caithness Model Club handed over a cheque for £500 to Caithness Health Action Team (CHAT) at the first day of their annual model exhibition in the Norseman Hotel, Wick today.   Chairman of CHAT Bill Fernie and committee member Liz More accepted the donation on behalf of CHAT.

Chairman of Caithness Health Action Team (CHAT), Bill Fernie received a big boost to the CHAT funds from Wick Community council when they handed over a cheque for £1000 to help with campaigning about Health related issues in Caithness.   Bill said,"The funds coming in show that we have a huge amount of support for our campaigns with the community making sure we can do things to highlight concerns at reductions across our services for health and the discomfort caused to mothers and families who need to travel to Raigmore.

As in previous elections Bill Fernie will be publishing his information shortly as part of his campaign to get re-elected for Wick and Caithness East on the web site.   As in all the previous elections and in fairness to all candidates in Caithness he will publish information for every candidate who would like to have a page on the site - free of any charge.

Get Help With Your Family History Search
After its winter break, Caithness Family History Society has restarted its "help" sessions for those who would like to research their family history, or need advice on how to continue.   If you are interested, go along to the CFHS office in Caithness Horizons, Old Town Hall, Thurso, between 2pm and 4pm on any Saturday afternoon or on the last Wednesday afternoon of any month.

Universal vitamins for pregnant women rolled out from 1 April 2017
From 1 April 2017, all pregnant women in Scotland will receive free vitamins.   The move to provide universal access will improve parent and children's health and has widespread support among healthcare professionals.
