Right to advocacy extended under Scotland's new social security service
A right to independent advocacy services is to be extended to more people under Scotland's new social security service.   Ahead of the final vote on the Social Security (Scotland) Bill, the Scottish Government has put forward an amendment that would see services provided to anyone who, because of a disability, needs additional support to engage fully with the Scottish social security system.

Caithness Community Partnership - Next Meeting Castletown 9th May 2018
The next Community Partnership meeting is on the 9th May from 4pm - 6pm in Castletown (venue yet to be confirmed) and all members of the public are invited to attend.   This will be a workshop style event and will be of particular interest to those living and working in the Castletown area as the locality plan covering that area will be discussed in a bit of detail.

Caithness residents are enjoying improved facilities thanks to the efforts of the Latheronwheel and Latheron Improvement Group, local volunteers and donations totalling £25,000 from the E.ON Camster Community Fund.   The funding has contributed to the refurbishment of the children's playpark in Latheronwheel, providing wheelchair access and a range of outdoor play equipment, as well as a woodland path network - the Burn Walk - which has been upgraded and had overgrown vegetation removed to make it suitable for visitors of all ages.

Councillors commitment to understand challenges in acute mental health services
Mental health was at the forefront of Highland Councillors' attention today (21 March 2018) as they participated in a seminar at Highland Council’s headquarters in Inverness.   The seminar was organised by the Council for Members and others, providing them an opportunity to hear about the different mental health services in place in Highland and the various challenges currently facing services and partners.
