High Life Highland Libraries have been given top marks by members and non-members alike as they turn to the Charity's online resources to help provide extra support for health and wellbeing during the Covid-19 outbreak.   Feedback on the Library services in Highland, including online ‘Bookbug' sessions, e-books, audio-books and the online newspaper service has shown that people have quickly adapted to take advantage of the services on offer.

From Caithness Voluntary Group who have coordinated the process to get the map.   Over the past 5 - 6 weeks I have been working with an absolutely tremendous group of individuals who are throughout the county working tirelessly to ensure everyone is looked after during this crises.

Caithness Health Action Team would like to give our sincere thanks to this fantastic team who have raised a significant amount for us £1,765 .This money will be used to help our community.   They have cycled a distance of 874 miles equivalent of John o Groats to Lands end journey.

Caithness Health Action Team along with the League of Friends for Caithness General hospital wanted to help patients and staff in our local Caithness hospitals.   We contacted NHSH and agreed that providing high quality Samsung tablets ,with protective wipe able covers would be an excellent way to help ,especially as at the moment there is currently no visiting allowed due to the pandemic.  
Second CVG Covid-19 Funding Update April 2020
RURAL community groups helping locals counter the effects of isolation as the coronavirus lockdown continues are now being offered financial support from The Prince's Countryside Fund.  The charity is inviting applications for emergency funding of up to £2500.

Funding has become available for community organisations that are setting up support for vulnerable people during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.   The National Emergencies Trust Fund is now open for applications.

Hearing and Sight Care - closing of centres in Thurso and Wick
In light of the recent advice from NHS Highland in relation to the Coronavirus we have decided to close both of our drop-in centres in Wick and Thurso.  This is an attempt to reduce the spread of the virus and keep our service users and staff safe and well.

CAB VOWS TO HELP PEOPLE THROUGH CORONAVIRUS
Caithness Citizens Advice Bureau has announced it will be available by telephone and email offering its services to local people to help them through the Coronavirus period.  Isobel Mackay CAB Manager Caithness said today,"We understand that local people are concerned about the health impacts of this virus and will also need advice about other aspects of their lives, including their jobs, rent and social security payments.  So we are determined to remain available and ready to offer people all the help we can.  
ERI, Thurso Cancels Events
As I am sure you will all understand we have decided to cancel the ERI External seminar that was scheduled for the 31st March.  This was to be a talk by David Agombar about saving the Albatross through use of new technology for longline fishing, the Hookpod.

Caithness Voluntary Group Coronavirus Message
The voluntary sector will doubtless play a huge part in supporting the vulnerable in the current crises and Caithness Voluntary Group will continue to provide support but for the time being will be working slightly differently.   Until further notice Telford House will be closed to all visitors .

Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, Rhoda Grant, has tabled a motion for debate in the Scottish Parliament in a bid to save a local charity, Sight Action, as NHS Highland make funding cuts and re-design services for the blind and visually impaired.   It was indicated to Mrs Grant at the end of last year that Sight Action's valuable services to almost 3,000 blind or visually impaired adults and children will no longer continue past the 31st March 2020.
