Members of the Caithness Countryside Volunteers have been busy carrying out maintenance work around the bird haven at St Johns pool near Dunnet in Caithness.   While some of the group cut back encroaching trees from the car park area and path others weeded an area in front of the main hide.

The North Highland Initiative is delighted to announce a new partnership between the North Coast 500 and local, award-winning photographer John Baikie to deliver North Coast 500 Photography Workshops and Tours.   The North Coast 500 is a newly iconic coastal touring route that has been making headlines across the world, putting the north Highlands well and truly on the travel map.

The John OGroats Trail
The John O Groats Trail (JOGT) is a coastal walking route from Inverness to John O Groats, traversing shorelines, cliff tops, back lanes and footpaths of the Scottish Highlands.   Accommodation, meals and shops are available at the end of most stages of the walk.

Police are appealing for information in relation to damage caused to a silver Vauxhall Zafira.  The damage occurred at 1 Mill Road, Thurso between 2300 hours on Sunday 28th February 2016 and 0800 hours on Monday 29th February 2016.

Council Celebrates Earth Hour Award
Ahead of WWFs annual Earth Hour on Saturday 19 March 2016, The Highland Council is again celebrating after being awarded WWF Scotlands Earth Hour Local Authority Runner-up Award for its contribution to the success of Earth Hour in 2015.   Some of the Highlands best known landmarks, including Inverness and Eilean Donan Castles, joined the likes of the Eiffel Tower and Sydney Opera House in switching off for an hour last March.

A nation of listeners but no one wants to talk
While most of us like to think we are good listeners, we keep quiet about our own problems, statistics released by Samaritans today show.   Nearly two-thirds (65%) of people in Scotland believe they are good listeners, but only a little over a quarter (27%) feel they can talk when somethings on their mind.

Summary: Police in Wick are investigating damage caused to a vehicle parked on Market Street, Wick about 9am on Wednesday 27th January 2016.   Police are keen to speak with the driver of Land Rover Discovery who was seen in the area at the time.
