Thurso Beach in Caithness had virtually every little piece of litter removed yesterday (Wednesday 5 October 2016) thanks to the hard work of pupils from Mount Pleasant Primary School.   The Keep Scotland Beautiful registered beach clean was undertaken by the Primary 4 and 5 classes and the P4 Gaelic medium class.

A 2013 study in the Wildlife Society Bulletin estimated that wind turbines inadvertently kill many bats a year across the UK alone.   Conservationists believe bats ,which are a protected species, are dying while hunting insects that are attracted by the heat generated by turbine blades.

Caithness Members of The Highland Council have set aside £30,000 from their Ward Discretionary Budgets to let the local community once again decide for themselves which projects are needed in their area.   Whether locals want to organise a dance for young people, a healthy living project, a crime prevention idea, a lunch club for older residents, a community art project, the only limit is their imagination.

Highlands and Islands Regional MSP debates Domestic Abuse in Parliament
Highlands& Islands Regional MSP (Includes Moray and Argyll & Bute) Rhoda Grant, has for some time been at the forefront of the debate on all aspects of Domestic Abuse and in particular the support and services offered to victims.   In recent months she has proposed and written to the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, on the need for dedicated Domestic Abuse Courts.

North MSP raises concerns about NHS 24 service
Highlands & Islands (Including Moray) MSP, Rhoda Grant, has written to the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Shona Robinson, about her concerns in relation to the level of care applied to the service provided to constituents in the Highlands & Islands region by NHS 24.   This follows contact she has had from the son of an elderly constituent resident within the region.

Members of the Caithness Countryside Volunteers teamed up with the Friends of the John O'Groats Trail on Sunday morning to improve access along a section of coastline in the Latheron area, cutting back dense gorse and building stiles to improve access for walkers.   The works on Sunday contribute to establishing a long distance walking route from Inverness to John O'Groats and other work days are planned in the future.

Recycle Week 2016- Get involved and dont let a good thing go to waste
Recycle Week 2016, which is taking place from the 12th to the 18th of September 2016, is set to see a whole host of action taking place across Scotland, with The Highland Council's Waste Team lending its support to the campaign and encouraging others to follow suit.   The week, which is coordinated by Zero Waste Scotland, aims to get everyone in Scotland recycling more by raising awareness of its benefits and promoting easy ways to do more.
