Regulator reminds late charities to submit information

The Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) would like to remind charities of the importance of complying with their annual reporting duties.   A charity has to provide annual reports and accounts by sending OSCR: a statement of accounts a trustees' annual report and an external scrutiny report.

Public consultation seeks views on steps to tackle their misuse.   The use and regulation of fireworks is the focus of a public consultation which aims to ensure everyone can enjoy displays safely.  

Caithness defibrillator campaign group (cdcg) big donation

The Caithness Defibrillator Campaign Group (CDCG) would like to express their thanks to local couple John and Lorna Mackenzie for their most generous donation of £2,000 for the installation of a Public Access Defibrillator at Lieurary Hall.   John and Lorna said "We are glad to help as it will be very worthwhile and a great benefit to the local community hopefully it will never be needed but if it helps towards saving a life, then that would be the biggest reward to us." John and Lorna also thanked Billy Mitchell (Chairman CDCG) for arranging the purchase and installation through the Community Heartbeat Trust for them and thanked the group for all the hard work that goes towards such a worthwhile cause.

Cafes in communities - survey

Community Food and Health Scotland (CFHS) wants to hear from anyone involved in running a cafe in a local community (geographical or shared interest) run for local people and/or by local people.   In partnership with Senscot and cafe networks across Scotland, CFHS wants to highlight the contribution that cafes make in supporting communities' health and wellbeing, and find out what would help make sure cafes in communities are, and continue to be, seen as valuable assets and sustainable.  

Hi-Viz Vests Free To Clubs and Groups in Caithness

Specsavers in Wick have been in touch to say they have a lots of Hi-Viz vest free for any local groups, schools or clubs Their are adult and kids sizes available.   "Previously we have given them to some local schools and clubs but we still have lots left.  

Third Sector Grant Cuts Biting Hard

In 2018, The Highland Council agreed a review of all third sector funding contracts moving forward.  This is to ensure that in a time of reducing public sector resource, any funding for third sector services should be allocated within Service Level Agreements, to meet identified needs, with measurable outcomes and providing best value for public money.

On Saturday 26th January 2019 the Your Cash Your Caithness event was held in front of packed auditorium at the Pulteney Centre in Wick.   Once again 22 Caithness community groups made presentations with questions from the audience about their many and varied projects listed below.  

New website - Proudly Supporting Those Who Serve

A new website was launched today (Thursday 24 January 2019) in Highland at Highland Council Council's headquarters which aims to support members of the Armed Forces community in Moray and Highland.   Convener of The Highland Council, Cllr Bill Lobban welcomed the launch of the website www.armedforcesmorayandhighland.co.uk/ which was created by Highland and Moray Councils.
