The crowds were out in force for Thurso Gala 2016 night on Saturday 25 June 2016. The change of venue to the car park area seems to have been a good one with much wider space for all the activities.
Over forty members of the public attended a series of high profile guided walks on the peatlands of Caithness and Sutherland led by the Highland Council Rangers. Andy Summers, Senior Countryside Ranger said: "We saw lots of exciting wildlife including great views of a peregrine falcon, breeding greenshanks and red-throated divers, dragonflies hunting around bog pools.
Enjoy an illustrated talk on 'An Introduction to Caithness Seabirds' with some coffee/tea & home baking before taking a short walk to view a puffin colony in the Dunbeath area. 3rd June 2016.
Maternity Unit In Crisis Consultants - Too Many Locums A new local lobbying group "CHAT" Caithness Health Action Team has been formed by a group of local Caithness people concerned about a variety of matters affecting health services in Caithness. These vary from Maternity where many more mothers in recent times are being sent to Raigmore hospital in Inverness, Lack of consultants, Locum cover, Lack of GP's.
Just less than a week separated Halkirk and Melvich Primary School's village litter picks but the weather couldn’t have been more different. Both village litter picks were undertaken as part of the schools Eco-studies programme and registered with the Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign and each event received assistance from The Highland Council’s local Countryside Ranger Paul Castle.

Records were broken for the numbers of models on show and for the numbers of people coming along to view the amazing collections that had come from both Caithness and many other parts of the country. The Model Show has now purchased its own tables so no longer needs to make a round trip to Dornoch to borrow them.

All the walks are led by a Countryside Ranger. It is important that you think of your own safety and that of any children for whom you are responsible.
The public astronomy talk is by regular CAG visitor Professor Martin Hendry MBE - his talk is part of the series of local IYL events that have been held this year. Martin will also be visiting a couple of Wick schools whilst in the area, to enthuse interest in space and science in .

Wick Gala 2015 got off to a great start with another fabulous show of decorated floats with many themes. The foot walkers with their collecting tins were as amazing as usual for Wick Gala.

Hidden Landscapes: LiDAR survey of a multi-period landscape in Caithness (by Charlotte Douglas, Graeme Cavers & Andy Heald). From the Caithness Field Club Bulletin 2014 Caithness is well known for its spectacular archaeology but aerial laser scanning surveys carried out in the county have revealed glimpses of the hidden archaeological landscapes that are less easily appreciated.
The annual Caithness Model Boat Show for 2015 was once again held at the British Legion club in Thurso on 9th May 2015. The winners were as follows - John Webster followed by Ted MIller, Billy Macintosh,and Robert Mowat.
