CO-OP Launches Good Causes Carrier Bag Funding
GOOD CAUSES IN SCOTLAND TO "CARRY AWAY" OVER £750K THROUGH CO-OP LOCAL FUND LAUNCH.   ood causes across Scotland are set to "bag" a funding boost of more than £750,000 as The Co-operative today (Wednesday, 16 September) launches its Local Fund to share the money raised through carrier bag charges and sales in its food stores.

Safer cycling and walking to school for north pupils
Pupils at two Sutherland and two Caithness primary schools are to benefit from projects being delivered by The Highland Council through the Scottish Government's Cycling, Walking and Safer Streets (CWSS) programme.   Members of The Highland Council's Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee have given their approval for £39,965 CWSS funding for projects at Gledfield, Lochinver, Castletown and Canisbay Primaries.

Your Cash Your Caithness - call for communities to apply for funding
Community and voluntary groups across the north are invited to apply for funding to put their ideas into action and bring benefits to their local communities.   Caithness Members of The Highland Council have set aside £30k from the Ward Discretionary Budget to let the local community decide for themselves which projects are needed in their area Whether you want to organise a dance for young people, a healthy living project, a crime prevention idea, a lunch club for older residents, a community art project, all ideas, large and small are welcome.

The Highland Council's Countryside Ranger Service, with funding and support from the Highland Seashore Project, have come together with local community groups, organisations and businesses in Wick to run a week of Seashore related events from the 21st to the 26th September.   This week of free coastal festivities has been titled Wick Waves and brings artfully together the exploration of the huge diversity of life on the coast; the influence the coast has had on shaping Wick its self and local art, books, food, music and sport.

Big Lottery and Highland Council Funding to Support Digital Inclusion in the Highlands
The Highland Council is partnering with digital participation charity Citizens Online and other local partners to identify and tackle digital inclusion issues in the Highlands, supported by funding from the Big Lottery Fund.   The project will identify the barriers that Highland residents are facing in accessing the internet.

The 2016 Safer Highlands J Rock™ will take place on Wednesday 20th April before the Safer Highlands Rock Challenge® on Thursday 21st April.  These events will provide the opportunity for local schools to showcase their creativity, talent and imagination on the stage of Eden Court Theatre.

Spirit of Caithness A Fourteen Community
Spirit of Caithness is part of Spirit of 2012's Glasgow Commonwealth Games legacy programme Fourteen; instigated by Spirit's investment in the Glasgow 2014 XX Commonwealth Games and its legacy around the UK.  14 communities across the UK have been identified as Fourteen communities that will each receive a resource budget of up to £250,000 over three years to invest in activity that local people themselves believe will make a difference to well-being and happiness within their community.
