Now in their 10th year, the Third Sector Awards recognise the talent, innovation and success of not-for-profit organisations, be they large or small, registered charities or social enterprises. Funding Opportunity - CSV Local Nature Reserve Awards

Equine Students At North Highland College Raise Funds For World Horse Welfare
Last week, the North Highland College UHI's HND Equine students handed over a cheque for £387.82 to the SSPCA. They raised the money from their puissance and jumping derby which was part of their managing an event unit.1/6/2014
Isle of Skye firm delivers digital child health records
One of the UK's most cherished family medical records is set to go digital thanks to a company based on the Isle of Skye. The Personal Child Health Record (PCHR) or Redbook is given to all mothers to record the early health and development of a new baby.31/5/2014
Community views sought before next round of LEADER funding in Highland
The Highland Council has appointed a consultancy firm to assist with the preparation of the new 2014-2020 Highland LEADER Development Strategy. LEADER is a European grant fund aimed at rural community development projects.30/5/2014

Dogs Trust to host microchipping event at Thurso and Wick
Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity with two rehoming centres in Scotland, has teamed up with The Highland Council to provide free microchipping for all dogs in the Highlands. From 6th June -10th June, roving teams of Dogs Trust representatives will be spending a week touring the Highlands, providing free chips to local dog owners at five different locations.29/5/2014
ACE STUDENTS MAKE OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO COMMUNITY
The Access to Construction and Engineering (ACE) students from the North Highland College UHI have gone above and beyond their call of duty this academic year. The students have raised £973 for charity, contributed enterprise projects to a local festival and donated some of their work to a local community group.29/5/2014
TUC urges unions and disability organisations to campaign together against attacks on disabled people
Speaking at the TUC's annual disabled workers conference in London today (Thursday 29th May 2014) TUC Assistant General Secretary Paul Nowak urged unions and disability organisations to come together to campaign against government attacks on the welfare state. Speaking at the event in Congress House he said "The past four years have been tough for disabled people in Britain.28/5/2014
Churches Come out Strongly In Support Of Local Credit Unions
Today the church of England has once again set out the case for supporting a local credit union in their war against Pay Day Lenders. In February they announced that they would their churches al over the country to promote the credit union network as being one of the best ways the local communities could help each other for low levels of finance without hitting people with high charges.28/5/2014

People with interesting buildings in The Highland Council area which are not normally open to the public are being invited to open them up for a day as part of the Highland Doors Open Days programme in September this year. Highland Doors Open Days is part of the Scottish Doors Open Days programme, which is, in turn, part of the European Heritage Days initiative.27/5/2014
Ackergill Tower Opened Again After £1 million Refurbishment
Ackergill Tower is a fifteenth century Caithness castle that has been for a few years the only five-star hotel in Caithness. It has reopened after a £1 million refurbishment following a fire earlier in 2014 which police said they were treating as suspicious.25/5/2014
