Royal British Legion Scotland (Wick Branch)
The Royal British Legion Scotland, Wick Branch, has been established since 3rd October 1921, when at a general meeting of the Wick branch of the Comrades of the Great War, it was unanimously decided that the said branch should become affiliated with the then newly formed British Legion. The Legion branch has remained fairly active throughout the long years since. However in 1977 the branch and social club parted company. Since 1983 the branch premises have been located at Mackenzie House, Coach Road, Wick. The premises were officially opened in April 1984. We have since then progressed into a fairly efficient and strong branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland. Although the premises is small we regularly we regularly hold social evenings, presentations, whist drives etc. The branch holds meetings every two months, with smaller committee meetings as required. The annual general meeting is held on the second Wednesday in December each year.
Branch funding is obtained by holding thrift shops, coffee mornings, raffles, donations and other methods. Each year donations and benevolence is given out to various ex-service charities. In 1985 the Wick Pipe Band and Legion Branch affiliated with the Pipe Band taking the new name of Wick RBLS Pipe Band, this association has stood the test of time, and gone from strength to strength over the ensuing years.
'We would be delighted to show any visiting Legionaries our premises and around the town'
The Legion Motto is "Service not Self".
