A new programme called Live It Highland is being provided by High Life Highland in partnership with NHS Highland to support people affected by type 2 diabetes.
The programme is facilitated by members of the High Life Highland team, sessions are either face-to-face in various community locations or online. The sessions take place once per week over a six-week period and provide helpful information about type 2 diabetes to help people to manage the condition to fit in with their lives. The programme is free and open to anyone with pre-diabetes or with type 2 diabetes.
Activities Development Officer at High Life Highland, Eilidh MacLean, said: "We started offering Live It Highland towards the end of 2022 and the feedback has been really positive from participants. The small team of facilitators are really looking forward to providing more Live It courses during January and February and we are very grateful to our colleagues in NHS Highland who have provided the training and resources to enable the team to support people in the best way they can".
Health Improvement Specialist at NHS Highland, Fiona MacLeod, said: “This programme is making a huge difference helping people understand about type 2 diabetes.
We've heard first-hand from people attending the course that it has helped with getting personalised and tailored information to help them manage the condition.”
Fiona continued: “When people first find out they have pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes it can be very confusing, Live It aims to provide recommended, evidence based information and support, delivered in a friendly, social format that is open to anyone who may benefit.”
