Castlehill Heritage Centre Event 24 June
13th June 2022
We have some different events coming up.
June 24th 1 PM to 4 PM we have a visit from the BBC. They are making a podcast about Margaret Swanson who is one of the Unforgotten Women of the Highlands.
We would love people to come along to this day.
You will hear about Margaret Swanson who was born in Castletown in 1872.
There will be a display of photos of the village in her day.
There will be examples of work she devised for the school needlework syllabus when she was on the staff of the Glasgow School of Art.
You can see what we found in the teacher's locked desk!!
You can admire the needlework done from the 1920s onward- much inspired by the philosophy of Margaret Swanson—that children should be encouraged to be creative and adventurous in their sewing and dress-making as befitted their age and stage.
Local school children and members of craft groups will be in attendance.
There will be tea and cake!!
It will be something different but well worth coming to. I have attached an image for you.
We are hoping to have Sunday cream teas once again. These will be every Sunday in August and we have booked good weather!!!
In August we are holding our first workshop since 2019. It is a paper conservancy workshop and will be held on the 19th August.
There is no charge for the workshop. It will be an all day event so a packed lunch will be needed.
The course is limited to 12 participants so it is first come to go on the list.
I will send out more information later.
We are hoping, Covid allowing, to have a new exhibition up for the beginning of July.
It is the Flagstone Industry Exhibition but with changes and additions.
