Thurso Community Development Trust Support for Families At Christmas

19th November 2020

Thurso Community Development Trust are offering two forms of food/meal support over the Christmas period.

The first is our Thurso Community Christmas. We would normally do this in person but obviously are not able to for 2020 but will instead be delivering a 3 Course hot Christmas Meal on Christmas Day to those who are in need in Thurso, Halkirk and Caithness West. We can also stretch as far as Castletown.

A copy of the flyer is attached and also a booking form. Alternatively referrals can be made directly to us by email to [email protected] or calling 01847 867050.

Spaces are limited and for the delivery of hot meals we would prefer to see the slots being taken up by either individuals or couples who do not have visitors this year. In addition to the Christmas Meal there will also be some cheer, chat and a lot of Santa Hats from volunteers and we will be making friendly calls to all who have booked on Christmas Day.

For those who can connect digitally there is a Christmas Quiz, for those unable to we will provide a Quiz they can complete themselves at their leisure. We also will be including a craft based activity, bake box, small gift and some treats. Note: No alcohol is supplied either in ingredients or by any other means!

When also have an option available for families which can be booked via our website https://www.thursocdt.co.uk/thurso-community-christmas of a Christmas Hamper Food Box. Supplying the ingredients to cook a Christmas Meal, Turkey, vegetables, dessert etc along with some fresh and dried basics to ease the pressure this year.

Referrals can also be made by contacting us on [email protected] or by telephone to 01847 867050. We're hoping to aim at families primarily with children. Once we receive a referral we will contact to confirm the day of delivery (likely 23rd December) and also have a quick chat to ensure that families are aware of other support that might be available to them such as the Caithness FM Toy Appeal and also ensuring if needed referral to CAB for welfare checks.

We'll also be including some treats for little ones and have teamed up with our Thurso Christmas Lights Group to offer free of charge letters from Santa.

If anyone would like to discuss either of the schemes and their suitability for clients please feel free to contact me directly to [email protected] in confidence.
