Highland Archives launch Virtual Doors Open Days

3rd September 2020

Each September "Doors Open Days" events take place across the country, giving the public behind-the-scenes access to some of Scotland's most fascinating buildings and organisations. For High Life Highland's Archive Service, which looks after historic Highland documents dating from the 1200s to the present day, Doors Open Day is an annual highlight which sees dozens of people visit to learn more about the work of the service and its fascinating collections.

This year Doors Open Day events have moved online and the Highland Archive Service is delighted to present a programme of short interviews with a variety of staff from all four Highland Archive Service offices, in Inverness, Wick, Fort William and Portree, from registrars and conservators to archivists and family historians.

The interviews will be broadcast throughout Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September (starting at 10am) on the Highland Archive Service’s four Facebook pages, and the High Life Highland YouTube channel and require no payment or subscription to access.

Lorna Steele Community Engagement Officer said, "Doors Open Day has been a great success for us over the last couple of years and we hope bringing it online will mean people will still be able to join us to learn about the work we undertake, and find out more about the many varied roles within our organisation and the wonderful and diverse documents we are privileged to care for."
