Autumn Tips At Your Home Before Winter Really Gets Blowing
5th October 2018
Winter will soon be on the way but there is still time to do some simple tasks to keep things safe.
Clean out the gutters
Cleaning gutters helps keep rain flowing as it should, and can prevent damp problems. While you're up that ladder, it's worth checking the roof for loose tiles, damaged flashing or damage to the chimney.
Turn off outdoor plumbing
Turn off the water supply to outdoor taps, and drain the system by turning the taps on to prevent frozen and burst pipes later on.
Service your boiler
It's worth getting your boiler professionally serviced before it gets turned on for winter. This ensures it is running efficiently, saving you money and reducing the chances of a breakdown when it's really cold.
Move garden furniture into sheds/garages
Property in the open, such as patio furniture and trampolines, can cause lots of damage if blown around in high winds, so wherever possible, try and move items into garages and sheds.
Test alarms
Replace batteries in smoke alarms, carbon monoxide monitors and home security systems. A good way to remember to do this is to always replace the batteries when you change the clock for daylight saving time.
