Big-hearted couple donates funds raised at their Golden wedding party to local charities

Golden couple, Donnie and Jane McLean from Castletown - who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the British Legion in Thurso a few weeks ago - have kindly donated two substantial sums to local charities.

Jane (71) and Donnie (73) split the money they raised at their party between the Mey Pensioners Group and the Highland Youngsters with Diabetes Group.

The Highland Youngsters with Diabetes Group (HYwD) gratefully received their giant cheque for £555 last week.

Jane and Donnie chose to donate to HYwD because of the support and help the Group provides to parents and children living with diabetes in the area including their own granddaughter Erin who has Type 1 diabetes. Erin was diagnosed four and a half years ago and, attending with her mother Lynne has enjoyed the supportive environment of the Group as well as several organised trips away.

The cheque was received on behalf of HYwD by Lorraine Wilson, who is the Caithness representative for the group.
