The Laurandy Centre has been recognised as one of the leading home care services in Scotland. The Wick-based day care service, has won the Day Service of the Year the recent Scottish Care Awards 2018.

The Laurandy team received their award at a prestigious evening ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow, hosted by Michelle McManus and attended by over 300 people. The annual event celebrates the tremendous work undertaken by organisations and staff who work in Scotland's Care at Home and Housing Support sector.

Service Manager Margaret Allan said:"We are all very proud at Laurandy to have won this special award. We always strive for improvements to our service to ensure the best outcomes for those who attend for care. This takes commitment and enthusiasm from the staff who always deliver with their best efforts. Thanks also goes to our dedicated volunteers.

"It is especially important to be involved in Scottish awards since we are located so far north. It is excellent for our community and Caithness. We had a wonderful time attending such a well-organised event."

The awards have been hailed a huge success in recognising individuals, teams and companies, who are delivering care at an incredibly high standard in an era of challenging budgets and within an increasingly demanding work environment.

About Scotland Care
Scottish Care is a membership organisation and the representative body for independent social care services in Scotland.  We represent over 400 organisations, which totals almost 1000 individual services, delivering residential care, nursing care, day care, care at home and housing support services. Our membership covers both private and voluntary sector provider organisations.

The Care at Home and Housing Support Conference & Awards are held annually and are now in their twelfth year, with approximately 600 people in attendance across the day and evening events.

In 2018, the awards were held on the evening of 18 May at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow.

Independent sector home care services support 47% of the nearly 50,000 people who receive this form of support, over half of whom are frail older people.  This sector is crucial in supporting people to stay at home for as long as possible and, along with care home services, in preventing admission and supporting discharge from acute settings.

Nearly 69,000 people are employed in care at home and housing support services in Scotland, 76% of whom are employed in the independent sector.
