More North doors opening this weekend for behind-the-scenes glimpses

The 2013 Highland Doors Open Days programme continues in Inverness and Caithness this weekend (Saturday 21st September) with a total of 7 venues opening their doors to the public for free visits and special activities.

The buildings opening their doors this weekend are:

Inverness

· Eden Court Theatre, Inverness: the two theatres, two cinemas, dance studios and beautiful Bishop’s Palace will be open on Saturday and Sunday, with guided tours available on Saturday at 11am and 2pm.

· Inverness Town House: built1878-1881 after an architects’ competition, the Town House has opulent interiors, beautiful stained glass windows, and a selection of fine paintings and portraits.

Caithness
· Caithness Horizons, Thurso: opened on 2008, the museum is located in the refurbished Thurso Town Hall and Carnegie Library, and has a permanent and temporary exhibition gallery.

· Church of St John the Evangelist, Wick: one of only two Episcopal churches in Caithness, this Category B Listed church was built 1868-1870 and has a warm and friendly atmosphere and impressive stained glass windows.

· Clan Gunn Heritage Centre, Latheron: housed in the beautiful former Latheron Parish Church (built 1734) in a lovely cliff top location, the centre tells the story of Clan Gunn from its Viking origins to the present day.

· Dunbeath Heritage Centre, Dunbeath: located in Dunbeath’s former school, the centre is an open door to the rich past of Dunbeath, its archaeology, and the landscape of Neil Gunn’s novels.

· Waterlines Visitor Centre, Lybster: located in restored buildings in the picturesque 19th century herring port, Waterlines tells the story of the harbour and the area’s local heritage.

Highland Doors Open Days continues for the last weekend in September in Badenoch & Strathspey and Lochaber.
