Bower Primary School Children Get Gardening
15th August 2013
Before the summer holidays Bower Primary School children, staff and parents helped with gardening work around the school grounds. Planters were planted up with colourful flowers, potatoes were planted, flower beds weeded and the whole school area given a general tidy up.
New tools, protective gloves and a wheel barrow were bought after the school parent forum was successful with a grant application to MFR Cash for Kids. These were put to excellent use during the gardening day.
Mrs Budge, Head teacher said:It was wonderful to receive this grant as it enabled our children to benefit from the use of super new gardening tools which were put into use almost immediately!
The new tools helped the children to carry out a wide range of gardening activities and they were just delighted with them. The staff and I are so grateful to our parents for applying for the grant and then for supporting the children in using our new tools on our gardening days. Well done also to MFR for funding this clever initiative.
Marina Swanson, one of the parent helpers said:We were delighted with the grant given by MFR Cash for Kids and it really helped the children with the gardening jobs. The children are very passionate about their garden area and the benefits their efforts make for wildlife. Also the understanding of where their food comes from is extremely important we are all looking forward to tasting the tatties.
