“InFesTaTion” - “Peter’s Pals” Young Curator’s Club Art Workshop & Launch Of The “Portable Museum Of Curiosity”.

Sunday 20th January 2013 saw the launch of Caithness Horizons new “Peter’s Pals” - Young Curator’s Club with a Penguin-themed workshop delivered by Sandie Robb, Senior Education Officer from The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.

“Peter’s Pals” is an exclusive subscription based club for young people aged 8 – 12. Membership of “Peter’s Pals” is £10 per child per year. The Club will meet regularly to investigate the Museum’s Collection by participating in exclusive workshops.

The next “Peter’s Pals” event is a Robert Dick themed activity led by Dunnet-based Fibre Artist and Caithness Horizons “Iconic Artist” Joanne B. Kaar, which will take place from 5.30-7.30pm on Thursday 21st February at Caithness Horizons.

Learn about the bugs and beasties that threaten objects in Museum Collections including specimens in the Robert Dick Herbarium and work with Joanne to create your own ““InFesTaTion” which will then be hidden around the Museum.

Places are limited so to book your place please contact Caithness Horizons on 01847 896508 or e-mail joannehowdle[AT]caithnesshorizons.co.uk for further information.

As part of her Museums Galleries Scotland and Creative Scotland funded “Iconic Artists in Iconic Places” residency at Caithness Horizons Joanne B. Kaar has created a “Portable Museum of Curiosity” inspired by a hand-made moss collection box, which belonged to Thurso baker and botanist Robert Dick (January 1811 – 24th December 1866). Caithness Horizons will be launching the “Portable Museum of Curiosity” on 21st February. It will be available for schools, community groups and Museums to borrow free of charge.
