ERI External Seminar, 6th December

We are delighted to invite you all to the latest ERI seminar, this coming Thursday (6th December) at the Environmental Research Institute, Castle Street, at 5.15pm.

Professor Phil Whitfield, from the UHI Centre for Health Studies, will be talking to us on the subject of �Weighing-Up Your Options: The Application of Mass Spectrometry in Biology and Medicine�.

Mass spectrometry is a key analytical technique used in a wide variety of scientific fields. The UHI Lipidomics Research Facility employs mass spectrometry to characterise and quantify lipids (fats) in biofluids, tissues and in vitro cellular systems. This presentation will highlight exemplar projects from our research programme. Key areas of work include exploring the role of bioactive lipids in inflammation and understanding the metabolic basis of inherited disorders. We are also using mass spectrometry to study the biology of organisms as diverse as microalgae and fish
