Highland Needs Foster Carers Like You

Highland Council is appealing for people to consider becoming foster carers.

This week marks the beginning of Foster Care Fortnight (12-25 May) and Highland Council is appealing for more people to come forward and become foster carers.

Cllr David Fraser, Chair of Health Social Care and Wellbeing Committee said: "Foster care provides vital care to children and young people and is at the heart of our communities, enabling children to stay with foster families, local to everything they are familiar with already. Highland needs more foster carers and I encourage anyone even thinking about it to join the online information sessions being provided to find out more."

He added: "In addition three drop in sessions have been organised for people to meet and chat with Council staff about fostering at Dingwall, Wick and Inverness."

The Council needs foster carers who can look after infants, younger children, teenagers and brothers and sisters to keep them together, in an emergency and on a temporary basis or provide respite for children in their local community, who have a disability.

The local authority also needs permanent carers for older children so they can remain with these carers for the remainder of their childhood. Highland's foster carers also support each other and share skills and expertise.

Session 1 - Monday 12 May from 11am - 12noon
Session 2 - Wednesday 14 May from 6:30pm - 7:30pm
Session 3 - Friday 16 May from 9:30am - 10:30am
Session 4 - Monday 19 May from 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Session 5 - Wednesday 21 May from 3:30 – 4:30pm
