MSP Brings Castletown Pharmacy Proposal issue to Parliament

Rhoda Grant MSP (Scottish Labour) has submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament on the Castletown Pharmacy Proposal.

Both Highlands and Islands (Scottish Labour) MSPs Rhoda Grant and David Stewart have opposed the pharmacy proposal since the suggestion was first raised and have called on the Scottish Government to introduced a moratorium on new pharmacy applications until new legislation is brought in and have also contacted

Both MSPS have called for the application to be withdrawn with immediate effect. The Scottish Government have said the current regulations are not fit for purpose and that they will be changed.

Rhoda Grant MSP has said�Until new legislation is in place no further applications should be considered especially if they will have adverse effects on current GP practices in Castletown and Canisbay. The Caithness community has really pulled together to object to this application and we have seen some of the largest public meetings in recent years take place, with over 500 people attendance.�

�I submitted this motion to the Scottish Parliament in order to keep the pressure up on the Scottish Government and to keep this application in the public eye. I have had lots of letters and e-mails from constituents on this issue and it is important we make local peoples voices heard as they currently have no way to register their opposition formally to the proposed application.�
