Childrens projects supported in run up to Christmas

21st December 2015

Four projects benefiting local children have received early Christmas presents in the form of awards made from the latest round of the E.ON Camster Community Fund.

Of the five awards totaling over £31,000.00 made recently by the E.ON Camster Community Fund Panel, three were to Watten, Thrumster and Wick High School Parent Councils and one to Watten pre-school playgroup for transport, equipment and event costs.

The award of £4,000 to the Wick High School Parent Council will see the Fund contribute to the costs of a celebratory festival next year commemorating the history of Wick High School as it moves to new premises.

Iain Baikie, Chair of Wick High School Parent Council, said they were delighted to have been awarded the money towards the celebrations planned. Wick High School has touched the lives of so many people and it is very fitting that we take time to reflect on this. This award is very welcome towards helping ex and current pupils and the wider community celebrate the part it played in their lives.

It will be good to get old faces back to the school to share their stories with the current pupils, he added.

Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Council was also awarded £4,608 to repair a village path connecting the Lybster village centre to the harbour.

The E.ON Camster Community Fund benefits the Community Council areas of Latheron, Lybster and Clyth; Tannach and District; and Watten, to support community groups and charities working in the Fund area that are providing activities or services which benefit the lives of local people.

Foundation Scotland was appointed by the wind farm operator to administer the Fund on its behalf. The E.ON Camster Community Fund is expected to distribute at least £150K a year for the operating lifetime of the wind farm.
