Final chance to sign up for Living Well with Type 2 diabetes event in Caithness

25th October 2019

A specialist event for people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes to get expert advice and information about living with the condition comes to Caithness next week - and it's your final chance to sign up!

The Caithness Diabetes group, supported by Diabetes Scotland, is hosting the free event next Wednesday - and are urging those living with the condition, their family members and carers to come along.

Being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes can feel daunting as it is a complex and serious health condition. Most of the time people are left to manage their condition alone, so it is very important they get the information and support they need to manage their condition well.

The specialist education day - Living with Diabetes Day - will be held at:

Venue: Assembly Rooms, Wick
Date: Wednesday 30 October 2019
Times: 10am - 4.30pm (registration and coffee from 9.30am)
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The event will provide people with the essential information they need to live well with their condition. Expert-led workshops on the practical elements of living with Type 2 diabetes such as diet, exercise, foot health, emotional wellbeing, and medication – will feature throughout the day.

Alison Grant, Regional Engagement Manager at Diabetes Scotland, said: "There are over 15,000 people living with Type 2 diabetes across Highland and we know that being diagnosed with the condition can have a life-changing effect on people.

"There is a lot of information to take in, particularly at the time of diagnosis, so our Living with Diabetes Day is a great way to get detailed expert advice in an easy-to-digest way, as well as being an opportunity to meet other people living with Type 2 diabetes.

"We hope the Living with Diabetes Day will give people with Type 2 diabetes in the area the information and confidence they need to live well with the condition."

Sinclair Mackenzie, Chair of the Caithness Diabetes group, said: “For those living with a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes, they're very often given lots of support to self-manage their condition. For those diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, their lifeline is often much less.

“We wanted to fill that gap and help give people in Caithness living with Type 2 diabetes information about all those things that can impact on their diabetes – to help them make informed choices and avoid long-term complications."

Those interested in attending the event should register in advance at www.diabetes.org.uk/wick-event or call Diabetes Scotland on 0141 245 6380.
